Service awards deadline nears
The Students In Service Awards (SISA) program is a national search for inspirational college students who are positively impacting social and environmental challenges facing our communities. These awards share amazing stories of college student service leaders with a national audience, inspiring our communities to deepen their support of student civic engagement.

The SISA includes scholarships and grants to: college students (up to $5,000), college service-learning centers, and non-profit partners. Deadline for applications is 5 p.m. (PST), Jan. 28, 2011. For details, see http://www.serviceawards.org.

Coalition aims to engage
Creighton University joins eight other area higher-education institutions in the Metropolitan Coalition for Service Learning. The coalition aims to engage students with their communities, to positively impact student learning, and to meet the needs of community partners.

Honor Roll Report
Thank you to all those who contributed to Creighton's President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll report. Approximately 5,000 Creighton students contributed 278,000 hours of community service during academic 2009-2010. Look for monthly profiles of our programs throughout 2011.

Please consider attending the 22nd Annual National Service-Learning Conference, April 6-9, in Atlanta, Ga. This event is the largest gathering of youth and practitioners involved in service-learning, attracting attendees nationally and globally.

Community-University Partnerships
Community-Campus Partnerships for Health and the Canadian-led Community-University Expo will host a May 10-14 conference highlighting community-university partnerships as vehicles for social change.

Forensics Journal
The peer-reviewed National Forensics Journal will publish a special issue on service learning. There is a call for articles that illuminate service learning within forensics or education that has residual effects for the forensics community.
