Seeking award nominations
Magna Publications and The Teaching Professor are seeking nominations for the Maryellen Weimer Scholarly Work on Teaching and Learning Award. In its fourth year, the award recognizes outstanding scholarly contributions with the potential to advance college-level teaching and learning practices. Articles of at least 1,500 words and published in 2010 or later are eligible for submission. Author(s) of the winning article will be recognized at the 2012 Teaching Professor Conference, June 1-3, 2012, in Washington, D.C., with a $1,000 stipend. Find evaluative criteria and submission processes here. Submissions are due by Jan. 15, 2012. Please copy Mary Ann Danielson on your submission, and a complete list of Creighton submissions will be included in a spring 2012 newsletter.

For your scholarly projects that are not yet ready for publication, please consider submitting your best Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) "work-in-progress" to the 2012 International Institute for SoTL Scholars and Mentors. Twenty-eight scholars will be competitively selected to present their projects during the May 30-June 3 faculty development institute at Loyola Marymount University. Campus events
Technology in Curricular Innovation
2011 AEA Assessment and SoTL Grant recipients will share their technology-related projects that develop, innovate and transform student learning. Presentation topics include: Assessment of Outcomes Training Using a "Gaming-Technology" Scenario; Assessment of Student Perceptions on Utility of Gaming System for Health-Care Interventions; and "Patched Up Drug Exercise." Call for proposals
The Association for the Assessment of Learning in Higher Education is now accepting proposals for presentation at the Second Annual Conference, set for June 3-5, 2012, in Albuquerque, N.M. CU hosts conference
Creighton will be hosting the next international conference on justice in Jesuit higher education, Aug. 1-4, 2013. To ensure participation by all the Jesuit colleges and universities, individuals are encouraged to submit proposals and consider how each school may wish to participate in the conference. Authentic Assignments
Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe propose in Understanding by Design that a learning task is authentic when it has six characteristics. Authentic assignments and activities must be carefully designed but what makes them worthwhile is the kinds of learning experiences they promote. IISSAM/CASTL institute
Creighton partners with several other universities in hosting a summer faculty development institute on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. Loyola Marymount University will host the 2012 conference on its campus May 31-June 3.
Higher ed pedagogy
The 4th Annual Conference on Higher Education Pedagogy will be held at Virginia Tech University, Feb. 8-10, 2012. There is no registration fee; registration is required. Conference details
