It's Time to Select Housing for 2013-14

Throughout February and early March, current freshmen, sophomores, juniors and non-graduating seniors currently living on campus will begin making decisions about where and with whom they wish to live next fall. Students will be receiving information via their University e-mail accounts in the coming weeks.

Career Fair Scheduled for February

Creighton's Spring Career and Internship Fair is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 15, noon-3:30 p.m., Harper Center, Ahmanson Ballroom. All Creighton students are encouraged to attend. Students are asked to come prepared with their résumés and to dress professionally. The John P. Fahey Career Center offers these resources to help students successfully prepare for career fairs.

Mark Your Calendars: 2013 Commencement

The 2013 commencement ceremony will be Saturday, May 18, at the CenturyLink Center Omaha. Please remind your student that the degree conferral application deadline is Feb. 15. Students apply to graduate through the NEST. Visit the commencement website.

Learn Your Options for Loan Repayment

Attention May graduates: Creighton's Financial Aid Office has important information on student loan repayment options. Students are encouraged to visit the website and set up an individual appointment with the Financial Aid Office to learn more.

Is your student considering continuing her or his education with graduate or professional school? The Career Center offers information to help students plan for graduate or professional school. Online Ministries Offers Prayers for Lent

Lent begins Feb. 13. Creighton's Online Ministries offers a Praying Lent website to help students and parents prepare for this sacred season. The website provides daily prayers, audio conversations, retreats to download and an Online Book Group to pray with during Lent.

Roommate Conflicts: A Learning Moment

Roommate conflicts can serve as valuable life lessons, writes Mandi Hulme, resident director for Kiewit Hall. Department of Residence Life staff at Creighton are trained and equipped to walk (and talk) students through the process of mediating conflict. Campus Development Largest in History

The University last fall announced major campus development projects that will significantly enhance the academic footprint of the campus. Renovations are under way that will eventually include seven campus buildings and the move of the College of Business to the Harper Center. This is the largest renovation of its kind in the history of the University. Read more.

Green Dot Focuses on Violence Prevention

In August 2012, the Green Dot violence prevention initiative was launched at Creighton University. The program encourages students to think about how they would react in a situation where violence could occur. It asks individuals to do something, whether it is reporting an incident, checking in on a friend or seeking help in a situation. Since its launch, more than 1,800 Creighton students have heard the Green Dot message.

Prepare for Financial Aid Filing for 2013-14

Now is the time to pull together the materials you will need to file for financial aid for the 2013-14 school year. Be sure to check Creighton's Financial Aid website for links to important federal student aid information and an overview of the application process. Applying for aid is an annual process, so don’t put it off. Awards to returning students will be announced in late March through the NEST, so remind your student to check often.

Study Abroad Applications Due March 1

Study abroad proposals and Encuentro Dominicano applications for participation during summer 2013, fall 2013 and academic year 2013-14 must be submitted to the Office of International Programs by March 1. Phi Beta Kappa Installs Chapter at Creighton

In November, the Phi Beta Kappa Society installed the Beta of Nebraska Chapter at Creighton University, making Creighton one of 280 universities to host a chapter of the oldest and most prestigious academic honor society. Read more and watch a video of the installation ceremony.

Does Your Student Need Writing Help?

Creighton Offers Mobile Apps

Creighton has a series of mobile applications that provides University news, maps, events, athletic scores, dining information and more to users of smartphone and other mobile devices. Check them out for yourself and recommend them to your student. Learn more.

Counseling Services Offered Free to Students

Creighton students can obtain free psychological services at Student Counseling Services. The office includes four licensed psychologists, two licensed mental health practitioners and two predoctoral psychology interns. The staff works with students on a short-term basis toward managing personal, career and educational concerns that may interfere with their academic progress. Parents can learn more about Student Counseling Services here.

Career Opportunities with the State Department

Creighton students can learn more about career and internship opportunities with the U.S. Department of State when foreign service officer Matt Weiller visits campus on Friday, Feb. 1. The event will be hosted by the Creighton Career Center (Harper 2015) from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Learn more.

Students Can Apply for Justice Walking

Students interested in social justice and service may want to consider participating in Campus Ministry's Justice Walking program. Justice Walking is a faith-based program open to 12 to 15 students who will be trained as volunteers for AseraCare Hospice. Applications for 2013-14 are due by March 4. Learn more.

Update Your Health Insurance Info

Student Health Services reminds students and their parents to revisit Creighton's insurance requirements. Many times, insurance carriers or policy numbers change on Jan. 1. Please make sure your student has the appropriate insurance card for 2013. Also, it's not too late to get a flu shot! Additional clinics will be posted on the Student Life calendar, so your student can receive a free dose of vaccine.
