2011 Alumni Merit Award Recipient
Daniel J. Semrad, BSBA'71, MA'09
May 13, 2011
This year’s honoree is a lifelong learner who has pursued undergraduate and graduate education in religion, philosophy and economics. Daniel Semrad graduated from the College of Business in 1971 and from the Graduate School in 2009.
Dan has created projects at Creighton that enrich students’ educational experiences and expand their worldview. The Susan and Dan Semrad Endowed Lecture Series brings prominent scholars in non-Western thought to campus, to address students, faculty and staff and engage them in the lively exchange of ideas that ultimately fosters intercultural understanding and dialogue.
As an investment counselor for 35 years, Daniel has taken a markedly different approach to his profession by incorporating into his practice a concern for issues of sustainability and conservation. Over the years he has developed a large portfolio of clients who share his interest in trading globally friendly stocks and investing in companies that are concerned with social issues and with protecting the world’s environment.
Dan has served on advisory boards of the College of Arts and Sciences and the Graduate School, and as an instructor in Asian philosophy, Buddhist studies and business ethics. He is also an active community volunteer, serving on the boards of the Art Farm of Nebraska, the Nebraska Appleseed Foundation, and as chairman of the board of the Great Plains Environmental Law Center.
Creighton University salutes Daniel Semrad as a lifelong learner, business leader and role model and proudly confers upon him the 2011 Alumni Merit Award for the Graduate School.
