Amy I. Longo, BSN’70, JD’79

Amy I. LongoAmy Longo is one of the best-liked and most respected lawyers in the city of Omaha and the state of Nebraska. In 1999, she became the first woman in the 100-year history of the State Bar Association to be elected president. Under her leadership, the bar embraced a new commitment to openness and a renewed devotion to the provision of legal services for all Nebraskans.

Amy's connection to Creighton runs deep. Both of her parents graduated from Creighton, as well as six of her siblings and a few of their spouses. Amy herself holds two Creighton degrees. In 1970 she earned her bachelor of science in nursing and in 1979 her juris doctor. Amy has taught in both the nursing and law schools for a combined total of 10 years.

Since 1985, Amy has been a partner in the law firm of Ellick, Jones, Buelt, Blazek and Longo. Her expertise is in employment, health and estate law.

She is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation and since 1993 has served on the Nebraska State Bar Commission. Amy was the first chair of the editorial board for The Nebraska Lawyer and was an initial member of the Nebraska Bar Association¹s Committee on Volunteer Legal Services.

Prior to being elected president of the Nebraska Bar Association, Amy served as its Chair of the House of Delegates and was the Association's delegate to the American Bar Association House of Delegates.

Supportive of Creighton, Amy serves on the law school's Alumni Advisory Board and is an active member of the Omaha Alumni Club. In her personal and professional life, Amy manifests the Jesuit ideals of service and faith in action.

For dedication and excellence in supporting her profession and alma mater, Creighton University is proud to bestow upon Ms. Amy L. Longo the 2002 Alumni Merit Award for the School of Law.
